Some people won't understand. But losing a pet can be like losing a family member.
My dog, Idgy, had been rather depressed for this passed week, and last weekend he started having seizures. He was only 9 yrs. old. He was my shadow. If it was allowed, he was with me....because HE wanted to be. I always gave him the option.
Last night I gave him his first meds for the seizures and it was all downhill after that. During the night I woke to him whimpering at the foot of my bed. I spoke to him and prayed that he would not feel any discomfort anymore. He almost immediately quieted down and fell into a deep sleep. I looked at the clock. It was 3:33 a.m. I now know that is when he left us.
He never woke up. The vet suspects he may have had a brain tumor.
About an hour ago, I was having a good cry and my husband scooped me up in his arms and said, "I just saw Idgy. He's still hanging around." (Of course this made me cry even more.)
How do you explain when a dog picks YOU? Larry adopted him from the shelter as a surprise for me when Idgy was about 2 years old. At first I was annoyed, but Idgy wormed his way into my heart and he became my "shadow". That was 8 years ago.
I feel empty and lost because MY SHADOW is no longer with me.... Waiting for him to visit ME.
