Reya, your feelings are indeed normal. The thing is, we have no control over when the people in our lives cross over, and when we try to distance ourselves to avoid being hurt, we can end up grieving even more because we miss what we could have experienced with them while they were here.
I also understand your fear of cancer. I lost my dad to pancreatic cancer and my mom to breast cancer. The way I have dealt with the fear is to study all I can about diet and lifestyle changes to help prevent cancer.
