I beg to differ with Teresa...hahaha....Puppies are more like TWO YEAR OLD TODDLERS!
For example - They need to put everything in their mouths....They will go-go-go and then crash and nap. They need guidance/gentle discipline and consistency - ie. a basic schedule of when they eat, go out to potty, where they sleep...etc....Praise when they do something right (like potty outside or chew on their approved toys), and a firm NO with a stomp on the floor with your foot when caught chewing on something they shouldn't or pottying inside.
It's important to CATCH a pup doing something either right OR wrong for you to respond. There is a 5 second rule (some say a 2 second) because their attention span is very short. They need to understand what your praise or your discipline is for.
Sorry this is so long, but LASTLY, a pup is like being a parent to a TODDLER and requires PATIENCE. LOL. |
